The Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority has taken delivery of new equipment to repair the malfunctioning container crane at the Takoradi port.
The crane which transports containers of imported goods broke down on Monday, leaving several importers frustrated.
The importers argued that the longer their goods remained at the port, the more they will be required to pay.
“Since the machine is not working it will cost us a whole lot,” one of the frustrated importers told Joy Business.
But the Stevedoring Manager of the Takoradi port, Jacob Adorkor says the importers’ worries of incurring extra costs are misplaced.
“I am not giving excuses GPHA is very proactive,” he assured adding they have told the procurement department to acquire new equipments.
“ Corporate GPHA has a programme in place that if it is the problem of any of the port that cargo or containers are not delivered to the owners on the day of payment, further rent is waved,” he said.
