The Ministry of Energy and Green Transition has announced that the Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) has commenced tie-in and test-run activities to connect the newly constructed AKSA Ahwomaso Power Plant to the national transmission grid.
The Ministry said the process forms part of ongoing system enhancement works aimed at improving electricity reliability nationwide.
According to the Ministry, once fully integrated, the AKSA Ahwomaso Power Plant will add about 141 megawatts (MW) to Ghana’s generation capacity, significantly strengthening power supply for homes, businesses and industries, particularly across the middle belt.

“When fully integrated, the AKSA Ahwomaso Power Plant will contribute approximately 141 megawatts to the national grid,” the statement said.
The Ministry cautioned that during the tie-in and test-run period, some areas may experience brief and temporary power interruptions.
However, it stressed that such potential disruptions are necessary to ensure the safe and reliable operation of the transmission system.
“These interruptions, as and when they occur, are carefully managed,” the Ministry assured.
In a press statement signed by the Spokesperson and Head of Communication at the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition, Richmond Rockson, the Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining stable power supply during the Christmas season and beyond.
“These activities are being carried out in the national interest, with a clear focus on long-term system stability and improved service delivery,” the statement added
