The Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) has announced planned power interruptions in parts of the Greater Accra Region on Sunday, August 23, to facilitate emergency works on a damaged transmission tower at Ashaiman.
According to a statement issued on Saturday, August 22, the affected tower is located on the 161kV Tema–Achimota transmission line and was damaged following a tanker explosion nearby.
GRIDCo said its engineers and technical teams will undertake the next phase of the replacement works from 3:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday to restore the integrity of the transmission line.

The company explained that electricity supply to some areas will be interrupted during the exercise to ensure the safety of personnel and the public and allow the technical teams to complete the repairs.
GRIDCo said it is working with the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to minimise the impact of the outage on affected customers and communities.
The company apologised for the inconvenience and appealed to the public for patience and cooperation as the emergency works are completed.
“We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience this interruption will cause and request the patience, understanding and cooperation of the public,” GRIDCo said.
