A Group calling itself Movement for Baba Jamal 2012 has picked nomination forms for the Deputy Information Minister to contest the parliamentary primary in the Akwatia Constituency of the Eastern Region.
The Group says it believes Baba Jamal is the best candidate to win the Akwatia seat on the ticket of the ruling National Democratic Congress.
Speaking on Asempa Fm’s Ekosii-Sen, spokesperson for the group, Theophilus Bediako said though Baba Jamal has decided not to contest the Akwatia seat, they will force him to do so.
According to him, they picked the forms without the knowledge of Baba Jamal because deadline for the picking of the nomination forms will end on Friday September 16.
Mr. Bediako explained that said some faceless people in the party were against Baba Jamal's candidature which compiled him (Baba) to decide not to contest the seat again.
When asked whether they will be able to convince Baba Jamal to adhere their call to contest the Akwatia seat, Bediako said “we will force him to contest whether he will hear us or not”.
He added that Baba Jamal is the only candidate who can help the NDC wrestle the Akwatia seat from the NPP which has since1996 occupied the seat.
Mr. Bediako hinted that the Group is looking forward to lobbying the chiefs of Akwatia to convince Baba Jamal to heed to their cll to contest the Akwatia seat.
Deputy Information Minister, Ahmed Baba Jamal has contested the Akwatia seat three consecutive times but lost to the NPP.
