Ghana Telecom is preparing to replace name signs removed from the Akufo-Addo Circle at Cantonments in Accra.
The signs which bear the name of Ghana’s Second Republican President, Edward Akufo-Addo were removed on Wednesday by men described as well built.
The roundabout was redesigned and named after Mr. Akufo-Addo, father of Nana Akufo-Addo, NPP presidential candidate for the 2008 general elections.
The redesigning was part of the country’s 50th Independence Anniversary celebrations.
The removal of the name signs is suspected to have been politically motivated.
When the Accra Metropolitan Assembly officials went to the site Thursday, the Public Relations Director of the assembly, Frank Asante said they did not authorize the removal of the signs.
He said a gentleman from Ghana Telecom claimed they instructed an advertising company to do some renovation works at the roundabout.
According to the explanation, the advertising company was responsible for the removal of the signs.
