The Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has called on the Ghana Police Service to intensify efforts to arrest a teacher at Bole Senior High School accused of engaging in inappropriate sexual conduct with a student in the school’s science laboratory.
Describing the incident as “unacceptable and shameful,” the Minister urged investigators to ensure the suspect is arrested and prosecuted to serve as a deterrent to others. Reports indicate that the teacher has fled to neighbouring border communities.
Speaking at the 2026 GALOP National School Awards on Thursday, July 9, Mr Iddrisu said the Ministry of Education was closely monitoring the progress of the police investigation and expected the matter to be handled with urgency and professionalism.
“The incident in Bole is unacceptable and shameful. So, the Police, we are watching you and how you proceed with the investigation and how you go further to prosecution to deter that unacceptable behaviour and conduct of a teacher,” he said.
The Minister also directed the Ghana Education Service (GES) to take a firm stance against indiscipline in schools, stressing that both teachers and students found culpable of misconduct must face appropriate sanctions to protect discipline and professionalism within the education sector.
Meanwhile, the GES has suspended the payment of the teacher’s salary after he reportedly failed to report to duty following the incident.
