President John Dramani Mahama on Saturday appealed to G8 member countries to support developing countries in building the capacities of their people as they conduct their businesses with transparency and in the right environment.He said currently, gold mining companies in Ghana for instance refine their products in Switzerland and other countries, which did not give government the right picture on how much tax and revenue to generate as they could hide their proceeds from government.President Mahama who was contributing to the G8 Summit plenary session in London on the theme: “Trade, Tax and Transparency”, said currently the companies provided government with extractive figures, which was not the best of deals.Ghana is among the four countries that were invited to attend this year’s summit in Lancaster, London in the United Kingdom.President Mahama said the building of the capacities of Ghanaians, for instance could create jobs for Ghanaian companies to refine and determine how much tax is to be paid.He said the Cabinet had approved the Right to Information Bill and forwarded to Parliament and government would ensure that it is approved for Ghanaians to have free access to information in all the sectors of governance.The President commended Prime Minister David Cameron for the invitation and subsequent discussions and called for deeper collaborations that would pull African countries from the challenges of hunger, poverty, diseases and general deprivation.
