The Secretariat of the Computerized Schools Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) has completed the placement of qualified candidates of the 2007 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
It, therefore, asked all candidates having aggregates up to 30 in four core subjects and two best subjects to check for their placement results from their former Junior High Schools (JHSs) or from the offices of Directors of Education in their various districts by Monday, September 24, 2007.
A release signed by Mr Samuel Bannerman-Mensah, Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES), and issued in Accra yesterday, said some candidates qualified but had not been placed and asked such qualified candidates to also report to the District Directors of Education by Monday, September 24, 2007 for alternative placement.
The release gave reasons for non-placement of qualified candidates as unfavourable choices made by the candidates such as choosing the same school but with different programmes.
It said the non-placement also resulted from candidates choosing four well-endowed schools and cited the situation where a candidate selected Prempeh College as first choice, Opoku Ware Secondary School as second, St Agustine's College as third and St Peter's Secondary School as fourth.
The release said where one missed the first choice, he or she was immediately sent to the next choice but that candidate must still compete with those who had chosen those schools, perhaps as their first choices.
It said if a candidate had better grades than those they were competing with, they automatically displaced such candidates, but if their results were weak, they would be unable to displace any candidate there and, therefore, would be unable to secure places there.
The release asked candidates who had been placed in Senior High Schools but did not intend to go to school this year to inform heads of such schools of their intention by September 24, 2007.
It said SMS texting could be done by Wednesday, September 12, 2007 but urged candidates to wait till placement reports reached the schools before reporting for admission procedures.
It gave the codes for One Touch and Tigo as 7777 and MTN as 1756.
The release asked foreign students to collect their placement forms from the Director, Secondary Education Division, at the GES headquarters in Accra.
Senior High Schools are expected to re-open as scheduled, but first year students must report by Monday, October 1, 2007, the release added.
