Child delivery has turned into a life and death situation for expectant mothers in parts of the Northern Region as lack of hospital facilities cause home deliveries to rise.
Most of these deliveries are carried out by unskilled Traditional Birth Attendants (TBAs) due to the long distances expectant mothers have to go through to reach a clinic.
Some of TBAs who spoke to JoyNews say lack of equipment to work has forced them to use their bare hands and unsterilized rags to carry out deliveries.
“I am even worried I might get an infection or that I may infect the babies,” one of them told Joy News’ Justice Baidoo.
Watch Justice Baidoo’s report from Salaga, one of the towns in the Northern Region where the situation is rife.
