Chief Executive Officer of Accra Lions, Nana Obiri Yeboah, has expressed concern about the recent act of hooliganism in the Premier League that resulted in the loss of life, warning that such incidents could discourage fans from attending matches.
Asante Kotoko supporter Francis Frimpong, popularly known as "Pooley," was stabbed to death during the Porcupines' clash with Nsoatreman in Nsoatre in Week 19 of Ghana’s top-flight league.
The fatal incident has led to the suspension of the division, with the Ghana FA set to meet the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akufo Dampare, and the 18 Premier League clubs on measures to clamp down on the act.
Kotoko have also withdrawn from the competition "until justice is served."
"I don't know what we're going to do to convince the pubic, who are already not happy with the Ghana Premier League brand, to go to stadiums after what happened in Nsoatre," Yeboah told Sporty FM.
"Kotoko is the biggest club in Ghana. If they withdraw from the league, it'll really be costly."
Meanwhile, a District Court “B” in Sunyani, has imposed restrictions on the movements of Ignatius Baffour-Awuah, President of Nsoatreman and former Employment and Labour Relations Minister who is a suspect on the murder that transpired.
He was ordered to submit his passport to the court registry for 14 days.
Baffour Awuah and Joseph Kyeremeh, another suspect - both granted bail, will return to the Sunyani District Magistrate Court B on Monday, February 17, 2025.
However, Agyemang Duah Owusu, the third suspect who was arrested on Monday, has been remanded in police custody.
