Host nation Egypt got off to a flying start in the opening game of the U20 World Youth Championships, beating Trinidad and Tobago by 4 goals to 1 in Group A.
A brace from Hussam Arafat and Mohammed Talat in the second half wrapped up victory for the host after the minnows drew level before half time.
Striker Afroto opened the account for the Egyptians after a superb run through the Tobago defence and slotted the ball past the approaching goal keeper, Glenroy Samuel.
The visitors rallied back with a shocking equalizer in the 36th minute from Jean Luc Rochfold after capitalizing on a defensive blunder and setting the stage for what was to be a competitive encounter.
Back from recess, the game turned lopsided, with the Egyptians looking more ominous and pushing for a win, which eventually came with cheeky ease.
In the 51st minute, Hussam Arafat blasted home from 20 yards after a poor defensive clearance, with the ball hitting both sides of the wood work before entering the net.
Mohammed Talat increased the tally to three when he connected a ‘give away’ from his opponent’s goal keeper.
Hussam Arafat again set the Egyptians over the hill and far away with his audacious strike from the edge of the 18 yard box with the ball brushing the fingers of Glenroy Samuel in post for Trinidad and Tobago.
It was his second on the night and that set the Borg El Arab stadium to raptures.
The group’s other game will pitch incredible South American talents, Paraguay against Italy on Friday.
