Over 800 students placed in Senior High Schools in Kumasi risk losing their places due to what school authorities say is lack of space. Officials accuse the Ghana Education Service (GES) of placing students far in excess of the number they requested for. Prospective students with placement notices to their respective schools are being told there is no accommodation for them. At the Seventh Day Adventist Senior High School, authorities say they declared vacancies for 600 students but the CSSPS sent 800 to the school. Officials will not speak on record but indicate the excess 200 students will be turned away. Checks at other schools like Prempeh College and Anglican Senior High School reveal similar situation. This has resulted in frustration and uneasiness among parents and their children. Even those who are lucky to have secured admission are not without worries. They complain about what they say are high fees being charged. Our enquiries reveal parents are paying as high as 800 Ghana cedis for boarders. The amount comprises government’s approved 328.70 and other charges.
