After weeks of speculation, former Information Minister under the Kufuor regime Asamoah Boateng has picked a form to become a presidential aspirant of the opposition New Patriotic Party.
Mobbed by a group of fanatic supporters, Asa B as he is affectionately called declared himself as the biblical David to bring down the Goliath in President John Mahama.
Already three other candidates have picked forms since the opening of nominations on June 6, 2014.
They include Asuogyaman MP Kofi Osei Ameyaw, Dr. Kofi Konadu Apraku and the party’s 2012 presidential candidate Nana Akufo-Addo.
Alan Kyerematen who has also expressed interest in contesting the position for the third time is however yet to pick a form.
While many have tipped Nana Akufo-Addo to win the slot Asamoah Boateng insists he is the chosen one to win victory for the NPP in 2016.
The man who failed to wrest the Mfantsiman West seat for the NPP in the last election believes God is on his side to win the presidency for the NPP.
"Today is the appointed time of God. I prayed about today before coming," he told Joy News' Beatrice Adu in an exclusive interview.
Asked if he was confident he would win the presidential race, the former Local Government minister responded in the affirmative and was biblical in his response.
"Not by my might but by the Grace and might of the Lord. Most people have said to me is this your place. Can you do this job, then I referred them to David.
"...He wasn't a warrior. He wasn't asked to go and fight in the fields when the Philistines were teasing the Israelites.
"He went out there and knew he could do the job. His elder brother nearly slapped him and told him to go back and look after sheep. That is where you belong.
"Most people think I don't belong here but God in his own wisdom knows what he is about and doing.”
While admitting he lost the parliamentary election he said he had learnt a good lesson from that defeat and would make it right in the presidential election if elected by the party.
