A member of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), is offering free legal service to the ‘vigilante’ former Attorney-General, Martin Amidu to pursue his allegations of unconstitutional conduct against the government. “Please tell Martin Amidu that Mike Ocquaye Jnr., his junior in law is ready to do the case pro bono,” he said. Lawyer Mike Ocquaye Jnr. indicated that his decision to assist the former Attorney-General to expose the government officials involved in the payment of the GH¢51 million judgment debt to businessman Alfred Agbesi Woyome, is in line with his constitutional duty as an opposition member to put the government in check. “If the ruling party indulges in corruption, it is the constitutional duty of the opposition to put them in check; so I am doing my job.” Martin Amidu in an interview on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show Wednesday, expressed his desire to go to court to pursue his allegations of unconstitutional conduct against government but he says he lacks resources. Mr. Amidu said he is ethically constrained to reveal secrets behind the 51 million judgement debt saga but threatened to expose the Mills-led administration if its officials continue to denigrate his hard earned reputation. Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Wednesday on the issue, Lawyer Mike Ocquaye indicated that Martin Amidu latest exposé has exposed the hypocrisy of the presidency in dealing with the controversial Woyomegate scandal. “What Martin Amidu is implying is that the President and Chief of Staff are cowards and lied about the Woyome issue. It also means they know more about the Woyome issue than they are telling us,” he observed. Lawyer Ocquaye noted that with the permission of the former Attorney-General, he will put together a team of lawyers and go to court to “reveal the names of those officials who have chopped the Woyomoney”. He observed that, if Martin Amidu has something against President Mills that will benefit Ghana, he is ready to ‘battle’ it out in court. Mike Ocquaye said senior lawyers in the country who have the nation at heart are eager to offer their advice in constitutional issues to ensure that Ghana is saved from the NDC. On the contrary, a communications team member of the government, Fred Agbenyo, a discussant on the programme said the Mils-led administration is unperturbed about the machinations of Martin Amidu. According to him, the comments by the former Attorney-General is not sacrosanct hence should be treated with the contempt it deserves. Fred Agbenyo said the government is committed to delivering a Better Ghana to the citizenry ahead of the December polls.
