A Ghanaian Optician ransacked by thugs pledge today to open as soon as possible but said she will never recover from the terror of being attacked. Margeret Asare, whose opticians Eyelondon in Mare Street, Hackney was raided on Monday evening said; " We want to get back to normal as soon as we can.
It is hard to say if things will ever get back to how they were before. Anybody can walk into my shop and I'm just going to have to hope that it's not to cause trouble and loot. I'm going to put in better security, but there will always be the thought at the back of my mind that the people who've come in and done this to me once will feel they can do it again".
She said the need to collect evidence is hampering the speed at which she can re-open: "We were told that we couldn't start to do anything until the insurance came to take pictures of the damage. The Police want to take finger prints but they have been so busy they haven't had the chance yet, and I really don't know when they're going to get the chance. They need to be on the street, keeping everyone safe."
A Spokeswoman for the Met said; "its important that we retrieve as much evidence as possible. We thank the local communities affected for their continued patience and apologise for the inconvenience it's caused.
Margaret in recounting her story said she had to flee with her four colleagues as a mob smashed through the plate glass window of her designer specs shop.
She said: "There were no police outside the door to stop it happening. It was very scary. They threw a brick through the window and if we'd still been inside they would have put a brick through our heads."
