The Inspector General of Police Mohammed Ahmed Alhassan has warned personnel against the use of excessive force and other acts that violate the fundamental human rights of citizens.
Addressing personnel who are preparing for a UN Peacekeeping mission, the IGP urged them to work harder towards building a new image.
He also charged the personnel to apply the skills acquired locally when they go on internal duties.
Some 160 police personnel are currently undergoing a four week training exercise with experts from the United Nation and the Center of Excellence for Stability Police Units based in Italy.
The training ranges from basic police techniques and tactics, including traffic control techniques, tactical progression, public order management, command and staff training, as well as self defence and fire arms training.
The men demonstrated their preparedness for the mission. 140 out of the total number of 160 personnel will finally be selected to go on the peace keeping mission.
The Director General, Administration, COP Rose Bio Atinga also commended the female members in the team encouraging them to aim higher on the hierarchy of the police service.
"I am happy that amongst you are female officers who are performing wonders. That is it...so that when we leave the scene, you can perform better."
