Minister of State nominee for Public Sector Reforms, Lydia Akanvariba, has vowed to champion the implementation of a robust monitoring, evaluation, and appraisal system across the public sector to enhance motivation and productivity.
Speaking during her vetting before Parliament’s Appointments Committee, Madam Akanvariba stressed the critical role of performance assessments in driving efficiency within the public sector.
“If you go to a ministry and you are working with people, there must be performance, there must be appraisals. I want to see motivation and productivity. And you can't get productivity without motivation – the two go hand in hand,” she stated.
Highlighting her commitment to improving public sector output, she underscored the need for systems that not only monitor but also evaluate the performance of civil servants.
She believes that recognising and rewarding outstanding performance will foster a motivated workforce and significantly improve service delivery.
“Once we are focused on productivity, we must reward those we work with. And how do you reward people? Through an appraisal system and a comprehensive monitoring and evaluation framework,” she added.
