The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Commonwealth Telecommunications Organization (CTO), Dr Ekow Spio-Garbrah, has declared that he is on top, as far as the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) vice chairmanship race is concerned. The former NDC presidential aspirant noted that he has not encountered any difficulty since he kicked-started his campaign, adding that events have moved on according to plan. He said he has been accorded the dignity of a hero's welcome at every constituency he has visited, a signal that delegates and party activists have wholeheartedly accepted his bid of becoming the party's vice chairman. Speaking in an interview with Kessben FM on Wednesday morning, Dr Spio-Garbrah emphatically stated that no matter the magnitude of prevailing forces against him, he will definitely become the NDC's next national vice chairman. He explained that he is sure of his victory because the delegates and party members know for a fact that he has what it takes to become the party's national vice chairman. "I don't want to sound boastful, but there is no denying of the fact that I have requisite knowledge and resources to manage the affairs of the NDC as national vice chairman", Dr Spio-Garbrah opined. The CTO CEO emphasized that what makes him stand tall amongst the contesting candidates is the fact that he is the only candidate who has been championing the cause of foot soldiers since the party assumed the reigns of government. Dr Spio-Garbrah contended that his loyalty to the NDC cannot be questioned because when the party gurus abandoned it after its defeat in the 2000 elections, he stood firmly by it. "When everybody was running away, I accepted the challenge to stay at the party's headquarters from 2001 to 2003 as the director of communications", the communications expert noted. He stressed that he did not only work assiduously to defend the party through thick and thin but also campaigned vigorously for President Mills in the 2004 elections. According to him, though he was working abroad as the CEO of CTO, his contribution to the party's success in the 2008 elections cannot be overemphasized. The country's former ambassador to the United States of America (USA) in ex-President Rawlings' regime intimated that the NDC risks losing power in the next elections if experienced executives are not elected to man the affairs of the party, particularly at the national level. Dr Spio-Garbrah indicated that the party has already suffered a major hitch in its administrative functions at the national level due to the fact that most of the executives have been given ministerial appointments.
