The Minority in Parliament has announced its intention to commence impeachment proceedings against President Akufo-Addo due to his refusal to sign the controversial Anti-LGBTQI+ Bill, officially named the Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Value Bill.
According to the NDC MPs, President Akufo-Addo's actions constitute a violation of the 1992 Constitution and undermine the principle of separation of powers.
They argue that these actions provide sufficient grounds for impeachment, as they demonstrate a disregard for the rule of law.
Speaking to the media in Parliament on Wednesday, March 20, Minority Leader Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson stated their readiness to initiate the impeachment process to remove the President from office.
Dr. Ato Forson further urged Ghanaians not to be surprised if such action is taken soon in the nation's best interests.
“We stand with the Speaker of Parliament in this. Let the President of Ghana and his government be aware that where this country is going is strange under his watch and the NDC Minority will not countenance it.
“But I want to end that it is obvious that the President has breached the constitution and we will advise ourselves. In the coming days, don’t be surprised that we will begin impeachment proceedings against the President," he said.
