The Legion, a youth-led group advocating for informed discourse, political activism and active civic engagement, has announced the inaugural edition of "Ghana Speaks Debate."
The event, scheduled to take place at the UniMAC Auditorium in North Legon on Saturday, April 27, 2024, seeks to encourage critical thinking and dialogue among Ghanaian youth, nurturing intellectual discourse and debate in anticipation of the 2024 General Elections.
The inaugural edition of the Ghana Speaks Debate is intended to foster constructive dialogue regarding the key policies put forward by political parties in anticipation of the election, while also tackling urgent issues confronting the nation.
“It provides a platform for diverse perspectives to be heard and understood, encouraging thoughtful discussion and analysis. The Ghana Speaks Debate is poised to become a serialized event, serving as a dynamic forum for young Ghanaians to engage in discussions spanning a myriad of topics, including but not limited to the economy, governance, youth-centric policies, social issues, and political discourse,” the group said in a press statement.

The Legion emphasised that its primary goal is to empower the youth, enabling them to confidently express their viewpoints, articulate their thoughts, and develop essential communication and critical thinking abilities.
It further said that the inaugural edition of Ghana Speaks Debate will feature student representatives from seven major political parties, affording them the invaluable opportunity to expound upon their party's key policies and offer pragmatic solutions to the array of challenges facing Ghanaian youth today.

“With youth constituting nearly 70% of Ghana's voter population, their voices and perspectives are paramount in shaping the future trajectory of our nation.”
The event will be attended by esteemed guests, including representatives from civil society organizations, members of the diplomatic corps, political party representatives, student groups, youth advocacy organizations, members of the academic community, and the media.
