Interior Minister, Mark Woyongo has called on the people of Bawku to remain calm as security agencies hasten efforts to identify the killers of two persons in the metropolis.
One other person was left in critical condition after unknown assailants shot them.
The victims, Alhassan Hadi and Tijani Issaka, were shot in their homes at Patelmeh after evening prayers Monday.
Assemblyman for the area Imoro Mahamadu who witnessed the incident said the victims "were sitting in front of their house when a group of people started moving towards them. By the time they realized they started firing...two died instantly".
Mr. Woyongo described the incident as unfortunate and regrettable because “we’ve come a very long way with regards to peace in Bawku.”
He is confident the security agencies would work within time to arrest the perpetrators of the crime.
According to him, “there is nowhere those people can hide; no place for them to hide; we’ll smoke them out”, assuring the people that everything would be done to bring the perpetrators to book.
“Sometimes, some people want to settle personal scores that’s why they would go and target people. But generally, it’s not very common. I want to treat this as an isolated case and that it won’t erupt into communal conflict or tribal conflict that we’ve been getting in Bawku.”
The Security Council in Bawku, in the Upper East Region, met Tuesday to look into the shooting incident in the town.
Based on its recommendation, the security presence in the area would be increased.
