Friends of Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings (FONKAR) have made a scathing remark against the General Secretary of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) Johnson Asiedu Nketia for describing ex-president Jerry Rawlings as a ‘barking dog’.
According to the group, the statement by Asiedu Nketia was reckless and needless which has the tendency of deepening the internal wrangling in the party.
Mr. Asiedu Nketia at a home-coming ceremony on October 8, 2011 to welcome members of the Democratic People’s Party (DFP) who are rejoining the NDC is quoted to have said the ‘barking dog’ who forced Dr. Yao Obed Asamoah and others out of the NDC has been tamed.
According to him, the move by the DFP does not come to him as a surprise since the personalities whose actions chased away Dr. Obed Asamoah and others from the ruling party had themselves been eliminated.
However, some members of the NDC who sought to defend their General Secretary say he (Asiedu Nketia) was just being metaphorical and never intended to spite ex-president Rawlings as it is being purported.
But the coordinator of FONKAR in the Brong Ahafo and the three Northern regions, Chris Dugan on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Tuesday, said such statements by the Asiedu Nketia confirms attempts by the current leadership of the party to embark on a destructive campaign to malign the Rawlingses.
He stated that Asiedu Nketia’s comments corroborate what Hannah Tetteh was quoted to have said in the US whistle blower website, wikileaks about plans to sideline the Rawlingses from the NDC.
The FONKAR member observed that if Asiedu Nketia says there were dogs in the party, then it means he presided over dogs for all the years he has been General Secretary of the NDC.
“Johnson Asiedu Nketia is a General Secretary who lacks a proper sense of judgement that is why he always makes baseless arguments. He says a lot of things that he cannot substantiate”.
Chris Dugan underscored the need for all well-meaning party members, especially those at the grass roots, to uphold article 6 of the NDC constitution which states that “the founder of the party is J.J Rawlings upon whose vision and leadership the party was established”.
He said attempts by the party leadership to undermine NDC‘s constitution will not hold because they (FONKAR) are prepared to defend and redeem the image of the Rawlingses.
“NDC is limping on its two legs based on the diabolic mentality of Asiedu Nketia, Yaw Boateng Gyan and co who only care about their personal interests” he bemoaned.
