New Black Stars captain, Jordan Ayew, says he’s “honored” to receive the role he feels he was destined for.
The 33 year old was named captain by Black Stars boss, Otto Addo, earlier this month, becoming the third Ayew, after his father Abedi and older brother Andre, to captain the team.
Speaking exclusively to Joy Sports for the first time since being named captain, Ayew says he’s learnt from the best and hopes his time as captain is a successful one.
"I’ve learned from the best - whether is Asamoah [Gyan] or Andre [Ayew]. I'll try and pick up things from their qualities.
"I'll keep on taking advices and things that made me grow to become who I am today.
“Andre and I are very close - he congratulated me and gave me some advice. Asamoah [Gyan] as well," he said.
He explained that the process just happened naturally.
“I’m not someone who thinks about being captain or about leadership roles," he said.
"I just want to enjoy playing football, winning games, scoring goals and making people happy.
"There was lot of talks and I was always quiet in my corner. I don't focus on all those things. It just happened naturally,” he added.
Ayew will lead Ghana out for the first time as substantive captain on Friday in a FIFA World Cup qualifier against Chad, at the Accra Sports Stadium.
