The over eighteen thousand Ivorian refugees in Ghana can now voluntarily return home.
It follows the signing of an agreement between leaders of the two countries and the United Nations High Commission for Refugees.
The agreement was signed during a one day working visit to Ghana by President Alassane Ouattara.
President Ouattara, through an interpreter, said “conditions are conducive” in Ivory Coast and the refugees must take advantage of this new agreement to return home.
He commended the warm reception he has received thus far and applauded Ghana’s legendary hospitality.
He also underscored the long standing relationship between the two countries and hoped the relationship would even grow stronger.
President Mills pledged Ghana’s continuous support to help rebuild Ivory Coast.
He said the two countries have “ethnic and blood relations therefore we always want to do the best that we can in order to promote and enhance our relations.”
