In a time where some people have termed Ghanaian movies as 'so predictable', some movies are standing out to make a mark as good movies. Nigerian movies in the recent past made huge waves in Ghana but the mass productions of Ghanaian movies have toned down the number of Nigerian movies making waves in Ghana. Some Ghanaian actors and actresses have also started gaining popularity in Nigeria now and one such actress is Jackie Appiah. Jackie Appiah in an interview on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show on Wednesday September 2, revealed that her dream profession was to become a lawyer not an actress. But in 2000 when she hit the screens there has been no turning back. Her acting career started when she took part in the Hal Jackson Talent Competition which sought to unearth talents in the youth. She came second in that competition. The writer of ‘Things we do for Love’ a once popular television series discovered her and that was how screen acting started for her. The shy Jackie has featured in over 100 movies till date and she says there is not much difference between Nigerian and Ghanaian movies. “People are appreciating the Ghanaian movies now, just that Nigeria is a bigger country and they are producing so many movies that is why it is in our market but right now, Ghanaian movies are of high quality and the demand is high”, she said. The beautiful actress says she is into acting full time now but she has some investments she is working on. She recounted a challenging moment in her career were she played two different characters (TwinsMaa Afia and Ashley) in Princess Tyra. This earned her a nomination in 2008 African Movie Academy Award (AMAA). Jackie who is married says playing a love scene which involves kissing “is as complicated as doing a normal scene where you are just talking to somebody.” There are always a crew there watching them so they don’t get emotional with those extreme scenes and her husband has no problem with those scenes since she is just acting she says. Jackie was among the 17 entertainment icons that have been signed by Glo to market the Glo brand. She explains the Glo Ambassador job is about spreading the gospel about Glo and the exciting products it has got to offer. Jackie says she is enjoying what she is doing now and she does not intend to stop acting. She was happy that she has been able to affect the lives of people because of her talent.
