The Nigerian President, Goodluck Jonathan, has commended President John Atta Mills for the support he provided Nigerians following the death of President Umaru Musah Yar'Adua.
He recalled that although President Mills was out of Ghana when the bad news hit Nigeria, he declared solidarity by directing Ghanaians to observe three days of mourning, while flags were to fly at half mast.
President Jonathan described the gesture as an expression of "brotherly love", stressing that it was an indication of the strong bond of friendship between the two countries.
Briefing journalists at the Kotoka International Airport on President Mills's return from Abuja, where he had gone to console President Jonathan, the Foreign Affairs Minister, Alhaji Mohammed Mumuni, said, "In consonance with African tradition, we went to Abuja to console President Jonathan and also congratulate him on his new position."
He said President Mills wished President Jonathan well in his new role and pledged Ghana's support and solidarity for him.
The President was in Abuja with a delegation of Muslims, led by the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Usman Nuhu Sharubutu.
