2015 in hockey was headlined by Ghana’s inability to qualify for the Olympic Games in Rio next year.
The male team failed in their attempt to pick the only slot available for Africa after finishing fourth in the Olympic Qualifying competition in Randburg, South Africa.
The Black Sticks lost heavily to Egypt in the semifinals curtailing any dreams of making the Olympics. The standout performance at the tournament however was Ghana’s 27-0 victory over Botswana.
The story was the same in the women’s division with Ghana missing out on a spot in Rio after losing to eventual Champions South Africa in a round robin tie.
Despite this blip, female sensation Nafisatu Umaru was adjudged best player of the tournament.

On the local front, Trustees of the Social Security and National Trust secured the Beige Capital hockey knockout competition in addition to the hockey league.
In the women’s category, Police Ladies won the ladies Atta Mills Memorial cup, and the hockey league despite losing the Beige Capital hockey knockout to Extinguishers
Away from the field, two executives of the Ghana Hockey Association (Madam Elizabeth Safoah King, and Nii Quaye Kuma were elected as executives of the Africa Hockey Federation (FIH).
While Madam King, the GHA Treasurer, was elected unopposed at a congress held in Johanesburg , Nii Kuma beat two other contestants to win the position as vice president of the federation.
