A co-host of JoyNews’ AM Show, Benjamin Akakpo, has been adjudged the 2020/2021 Best Student in Constitutional Law at University of Ghana School of Law (UGSoL).
His impressive performance won him the coveted Ace Anan Ankomah Prize at a grand ceremony organised at the University’s Great Hall.
The Vice-Chancellor’s Academic Excellence Awards, which took place on Friday, April 29, saw over 100 students receiving academic performance awards in specific areas of study.
Owing to the Covid-19 pandemic, the awards ceremony could not take place last year.

Deserving recipients were honoured in a belated, yet remarkable and memorable ceremony.
In an interaction with Myjoyonline.com after receiving the award, Benjamin Akakpo noted that “what is yours will definitely find you, no matter what, and that’s what happened in my case.”

He expressed gratitude to God, his “very supportive family,” friends and colleagues whose well wishes helped him attain these heights.
“To be honest, as one who has already graduated from the University of Ghana School of Law, and owing to the fact that on the back of the Covid-19 pandemic, these awards had not been given out within the 2020/2021 academic year, I wasn't holding my breath for any prize.

“I feel very honoured to have received this award. It is no mean feat and I am elated that I came up tops in an area of legal study as tough as Constitutional Law,” he added.
From the sciences to the humanities, awardees received prizes accompanied by cash sums and in some instances - depending on the sponsoring party - computers and foreign travels.
The Keynote Speaker at the event, a Justice of the Supreme Court, Prof Henrietta Mensa-Bonsu, urged the award winners to aspire to higher heights academically.

She also entreated more individuals and corporate entities to lend their support to the University of Ghana's annual awards' scheme.
On her part, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, lauded the University's credentials in shaping national life.

The ceremony was graced by some diplomats and members of the university community.
