Kanekalon; a Japanese company in the production of quality synthetic hair fibers for the Ghanaian market recently launched its newest initiative as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility.
The brand which has been known over the years to have a large social media audience and presence through its various campaigns and activities launched the “Kanekalon High School Drive” as a way of reaching out to high school students specifically final year female students.

Kanekalon has been focusing on empowering young, smart ladies over the years by helping them realize and use their confidence, talents and voice to make impactful changes and decisions wherever they find themselves. This focus led the brand to kickstart the foremost edition of the Kanekalon High School Drive in Ghana.
This initiative focused on three strong pillars of career and life coaching, monetizing and using social media for good and best hair care tips for females.

The team visited a total of three high schools together with three seasoned speakers for each of the three main topics. Their first stop was St. John’s Grammar Senior High School in Accra, then moved on to Krobo Girls Presbyterian Senior High School in the Eastern and finally made their last stop at St. Mary’s Senior High School also in Accra on the 29th of June, 2022.

Miss Akua Ampah, one of the speakers on the High School Drive, an early career development coach and lead consultant at the virtual career office spoke in all three schools on what she brilliantly coined as the VIPP’S – Values, Interests, Passion/ Personality and Skills.
Miss Eyram Agbeshie, a social media influencer and also a speaker on the High School Drive, used her inspiring influencer journey story to expound on the subject of monetizing and using social media for good.

The final speaker in the person of the Chief Marketing Officer for Kanekalon, Miss Esther Asogonnde gave presentations on the super features of the various Kanekalon fiber products and best practices to keep the hair healthy and clean.
The Kanekalon High School Drive was eloquently hosted by young internet sensation and former Kanekalon Activ8 participant, Yaa Bitha.

The brand used photos, exciting reels, and videos on its Instagram and Facebook pages (@bekanekalon) to celebrate the success of each school stop.
Aside from talks and insights shared, the program was interspersed with talent show battles as well as music breaks to keep the students active and energized for each session. Winners were chosen by the cheers and shouts of student populace and all participants and winners including students who asked questions were rewarded with souvenirs and packages from Kanekalon and its partners.

The last school stop - St. Mary’s Senior High stood out among the lot as they crowned their program with a Kanekalon sponsored beauty pageant. The event was preceded by a red carpet show for the ladies and was said to be a night of glamour and fashion.
The students were permitted to attend the event with their gowns and dresses to match the occasion. Miss Queenstar, a final year art student emerged as the face of the beauty pageant and together with the 1st and 2nd runner up were awarded with cash prizes and packages from Kanekalon and its partners. The night ended with a huge celebration as friends and classmates of the winners congratulated them.

Kanekalon expressed immense gratitude to the student bodies and staff of all three High Schools for believing in the vision and granting permission to carry out this High School Drive successfully, its partners; Darling, Outre, X-pression and Sublime and supporting sponsor Twellium Industries.
According to the Chief Marketing Officer, Miss Asogonnde , the company will always be committed to the growth, safety and advancement of women in society and thus, intends to continue this initiative and expand to more schools in the coming months due to the many positive testimonials from both staff and students from the three schools and also expressed interest from the heads of other institutions.
