The Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi says it is unable to perform surgery on patients because it does not have sufficient water with which to operate.Officials told Joy News they have been without a water supply for four days and are forced to turn down patients who need their services.Public Relations Officer Kwame Frimpong reported that the situation may get out of hand if something is not done to rememdy it immediately.“We put some measures to see how the problems could be ameliorated.
Unfortunately, that did not work out very much because even the tankers that we hired to go the various hydrants and supply points could not get water,” he said.He added that even the Ghana Water Company does not have water for use in its reservoir.Mr. Frimpong said the situation is precarious and has affected services in the hospital. He hopes that the problem will be fixed because if the situation is not resolved by close of day Thursdaym, it will critically affect the hospital’s ability to provide emergency services.
