President of the Ga-Damgbe Coucil, K.B. Asante is challenging the legitimacy of the Ga Traditional Council which said it recognizes King Tackie Tawiah III in a press statement released on Monday. In the statement, the Ga Traditional Council rejected the coronation of the new Ga Mantse King Tackie Adama Latse II.But Mr. Asante who is a prominent Ga native says the Traditional Council has no authority to make such statements. He said for some time now the Traditional Council has been ineffective due to the status of some of the chiefs. He said only three out of the seven chiefs in the council have no problems about their legitimacy. He therefore counseled that it is better for the Council to desist from making statements at this time and rather comment on issues that bother on facts and customary practice. He however said the statement by the Traditional Council should be treated with seriousness “in that it underlines the problem in the Accra area."Source: Joy News/Myjoyonline.com/Ghana
