Angel FM, a local radio station in Kumasi was nearly turned into a boxing arena, after an on-air debate between Kennedy Agyapong MP for Assin North and Joseph Yamin defeated NDC Parliamentary candidate for Bantama turned sour.
Reports indicated the two men engaged in a hot verbal confrontation, which was on the verge of degenerating into a fight.
But independent sources within the station told Joy News the men were physically restrained.
Even though the programme was brought to an abrupt end, it did not stop dozens of supporters of the NDC and NPP from besieging the station.
Fearing the situation could get out of hand, Management of the station alerted the Buffalo Unit of the police service who brought the situation under control, but not after Salamatu Salihu, the Bantama constituency women’s organiser of the NDC was allegedly manhandled, injuring her in the process.
Ashanti Regional Police commander DCOP Ayenso Opare Addo confirmed the incident to Joy News but said there was no cause for alarm.
Even though he acknowledged reports of hot verbal exchanges between the two, he added, the police was not going to conduct any investigations into the matter because “there was no activity in terms of man-to-man scuffle.”
DCOP Opare Addo however said he had no idea Salamatu Salihu was injured.
