Afrobeats artiste, King Promise has won for himself a nomination for the 2021 MOBO Awards, an awards scheme that celebrates the best of music of Black origin.
The singer, born Gregory Bortey Newman, was nominated for Best African Music Act, making him the only Ghanaian musician nominated this year.
He goes into the awards with stiff competition from Nigeria’s heavyweights Burna Boy, Wizkid, Tiwa Savage and Davido. Young rising stars Rema, Ayra Starr, and Tems come in as part of the delegation from the West African music powerhouse.
Also in contention for the Best African Music act award is East London’s rap collective NSG.

The ‘CCTV’ hit maker’s nomination increases the tally of Ghana’s representation at the awards.
His predecessors Shatta Wale, Sarkodie, and Samini all worked hard under the year of review in correspondence with their nomination, with the Highgrade boss being the only artiste to bring home the MOBO award for ‘Best African Music Act’ in 2006.
A win for King Promise will be a perfect boost for the talented male vocalist ahead of his Promiseland concert slated for December 24.
Fans have enjoyed both singles off his much-anticipated album; Slow Down released in May, followed by Ring My Line featuring UK rapper Headie One who has also bagged a nomination in the Best Male Act category of the MOBO 2021.
The ceremony takes place on Sunday, December 5.
