The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly says it will embark on an exercise to demolish buildings sited on waterways in order to stop what authorities describe as human-induced flooding in the city.
Kumasi has had its share of the recent heavy rains which resulted in flooding in parts of the country.
Three people of a family of four died at Kronom near Kumasi, at the week-end when their building collapsed on them following a downpour.
Property worth thousands of cedis has been destroyed in many communities.
City Mayor Samuel Sarpong told Nhyira FM all unauthorized structures will be demolished in an exercise which takes off next month.
Floods from heavy rains have in various degrees hit areas such as Atonsu S-Line, Ahinsan, and Breman-Abusuakruwa, Aboabo and parts of Buokrom Estates.
City authorities are meting to find lasting solution to the recurrent trend and to prevent situations such as happened in Accra.
Ahead of the meeting, Mr. Sarpong said he is unhappy many people are suffering as a result of mistakes of a few others.
Unlike previous demolition programmes which came with cost to government, victims will bear the cost of the pulling down of their houses this time round.
Mr. Sarpong believes this will serve as deterrent to other people who would want to flout the assembly’s by-laws.
