A Deputy Information Minister, Baba Jamal has called on the Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Kofi Adams to conform to the party's rules and regulations which debars any executive member from publicly supporting any candidate. The ruling party on Monday outlined guidelines for its flagbearer contest, stating that party executives are prevented from issuing public pronouncements in support of a candidate. The clause states that “any party executive who issues public statements, press statements and make public pronouncements or violates/breaches any part of the code of conduct shall be subject to sanctions by NEC upon the recommendation of a Disciplinary Committee.” But Mr. Adams, who is also the spokesperson of the Rawlingses, has stated that the party’s guidelines do not bar individual executive members from declaring support for any aspirant, adding that he will not be deterred from supporting Mrs. Rawlings' bid to contest for the NDC flagbearership against President Mills. Kofi Adams who is solidly behind the former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings in her bid to challenge President Mills for the party's flagbearership race insists he can fulfill both his duties as spokespersons to the Rawlings family and deputy NDC General Secretary. On Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Tuesday, former deputy General Secretary of the NDC, Baba Jamal expressed disappointment in the actions of his successor. “This behavior is not correct for a national executive and I am expecting he conform to the rules” he said. He explained that, by virtue of his (Kofi Adams) position as the deputy General Secretary of the party, his position of being the spokesperson for Mrs. Rawlings goes contrary to the party’s guidelines for the upcoming primaries. Baba Jamal also commended his party for giving female candidates a 50% rebate aimed at encouraging women to play active roles in the party to strengthen Ghana’s democratic process.
