BBC World Service News & Current Affairs prime time breakfast show anchor, Komla Dumor, is in the reckoning for the best Speech Broadcaster of the Year at the 2011 Sony Radio Academy Awards.
The former Joy FM Super Morning Show host was named on Wednesday among nominees for the prestigious awards, which recognizes and celebrates the very best of UK radio nationally, regionally and locally.
This year the 30-year-old Awards ceremony has 35 categories, each designed to recognise a specific aspect of radio production and presentation.
Komla’s Speech Broadcaster of the Year nomination was in the People Awards category which specifically recognises the contribution of individuals in speech-based programmes that are broadcast on a regular basis, typically every day or every week.
A posting on the Awards website says “The judges are looking for evidence of outstanding presentation & content that engages its target audience.”
The Awards ceremony is scheduled for Monday, May 9, at London’s Grosvenor House Hotel where Gold, Silver and Bronze Awards will be presented to winners.
Other categories for the Awards are Programme Awards which recognise regularly scheduled programmes and programming that falls within regular programmes, On-Air Marketing Awards which are designed to celebrate on-air marketing initiatives, Production Awards celebrate the work of producers and feature makers in key areas and Station Awards which recognise stations as a whole.
