The Konnected Minds Podcast has achieved a major milestone for Ghana and the African podcast industry by becoming the first podcast on the continent to host and record a full podcast event inside a cinema.
The show, titled “Importation”, was held on December 19 at Silverbird Cinemas, Accra Mall, marking a defining moment for African podcasting. Until now, cinema spaces across Africa have largely been reserved for film premieres and blockbuster screenings.
Konnected Minds’ ability to bring a podcast into a cinema environment signals a significant shift in how podcasts are valued, produced, marketed and consumed on the continent.
While cinema-based podcast events have been experimented with in the UK, most notably by the podcast “Help I Sexted My Boss”, no African podcast had previously achieved this scale or format within a cinema setting.
The event was hosted by Derrick Abaitey, founder and lead host of Konnected Minds, and featured accomplished entrepreneur Aisha Bengai.
Together, they delivered an in-depth and practical session aimed at empowering attendees with the mindset, tools and strategies needed to succeed in business and in life.
The highly interactive nature of the event elevated it beyond a traditional talk. Participants gained actionable insights drawn from real-world experience, including a breakdown of the Top 5 Selling Products in Ghana, offering practical business knowledge they could apply immediately.
“Importation” was more than a single event and has set a new benchmark for what is possible within Africa’s creative and media industries. It demonstrated that podcasts in Ghana and across Africa can command premium venues, deliver high-level educational value and compete with global standards of production and audience engagement.
By becoming the first podcast in Africa to host and film a podcast episode in a cinema, Konnected Minds has raised the bar for Ghanaian podcasts and paved the way for large-scale, high-quality podcast experiences across the continent.
