Officials of Kotoko are moaning over the appointment of referee Cecil Fletcher for the crunch weekend tie against Hearts of Oak at the Baba Yara Stadium.
According to the club, the Takoradi-based referee’s poor record in matches involving the Porcupine Warriors makes him unfit to officiate a match of Sunday’s magnitude.
“I don’t understand why a referee like Cecil Fletcher would be appointed for this big match considering his past record with matches involving Kotoko,” PRO of the club Jarvis Peprah said.
He however alluded to the fact that the timing of the referee’s appointment makes it inappropriate for the club to lodge an official protests but rather wish to draw the attention of the public to the observations.
“Nevertheless, we would play the game to the best of our ability and hope the referee does his part professionally,” he added.
Some followers of Hearts of Oak however believe it is just a gimmick to lay the foundation for the numerous excuses Kotoko officials will give for the obvious defeat on Sunday.
