The Kpando District Assembly is to build a modern District Police Office and Barracks to solve the accommodation problem facing police personnel.
Mr Francis Ganyaglo, the Kpando District Chief Executive, said this at an outreach programme by Mr Joseph Amenowode, Volta Regional Minister.
He said a land had been purchased for the project and the district's Town and Country Planning Department had been commissioned to draw layouts and designs for the buildings.
Mr Ganyaglo commented on the appalling state in which both the residential and office accommodation for Police personnel in the district is.
According to him, the project would be financed through the Common Fund.
He appealed to other stakeholders to assist for the early completion of the project.
Mr Ganyaglo said the Assembly, in collaboration with the Ghana Maritime Authority and the Ministry of Roads and Highways are to procure a speed boat and a pick-up for the naval patrol team to patrol the Volta Lake.
He noted that other safety measures include removal of tree stumps from the lake, provision of 10,000 life jackets to boat owners and users as well as training of the patrol taskforce.
Mr Ganyaglo said the opening of a branch of the Agricultural Development Bank (ADB) at Kpando, the elevation of Vakpo clinic to a health centre and Vakpo being selected as the Volta Regional Centre of Excellence by the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MOFA) are new developments in the area.
