President John Agyekum Kufuor yesterday marked his 70th birthday anniversary at his Dzorwulu residence in a colourful way.
A birthday party was organised for President Kufuor at a time the results of the 2008 elections which could determine who succeeds hanged in the balance.
Joining the President to celebrate his birthday were members of the diplomatic corps including Ghana's ambassadors to various countries, family members as well as some friends of the President.
Ministers of State and Members of Parliament who usually graced the occasion with their presence were conspicuously missing, probably as a result of the general elections which results are still trickling in.
The President was spotted in white clothing with his wife and grandchildren helping him to cut a cake to mark the occasion.
The Winneba Youth Choir filled the air with melodious tunes which brought some guests at the party to their feet while others nodded their heads in appreciation.
Already, congratulatory messages have started pouring in from around the world.
The President of Russia, Dmitry Medvedev in a letter said. "Please accept my sincere congratulations on the occasion of your 70th Birthday.”
He praised President Kufuor for being a prominent politician and a statesman of Africa who has devoted his life to the service of the people and ensuring peace on the continent.
He was confident that the friendly relations established between Russia and Ghana would develop further for the benefit of the two nations and for the consolidation of international cooperation.
"I wish you, Mr. President, good health and well-being and to the Ghanaian people progress and prosperity."
