Kumasi Mayor Kojo Bonsu has incurred the wrath of the members of the Public Accounts Committee for failing to appear before them Luv FM's Prince Appiah has reported.
The Committee was in Kumasi to thoroughly scrutinize the audit reports of public institutions in the region.
It extended an invitation to the Mayor to appear and account for his stewardship but a representative of the Assembly told the Committee Mr Kojo Bonsu had taken his annual vacation.
The Committee members did not understand why Mr Bonsu, who was on duty during the opening of the Committee's sittings would suddenly ignore their call to appear and go on vacation.
A member of the Committee Benito Owusu-Bio, said the Mayor could not have taken a vacation if he had been summoned by the Chief of Staff or the Attorney General and wondered why he would ignore Parliament.
He said the conduct of the mayor is disrespectful towards Parliament.
This is the capital of the Ashanti Region and he is incumbent to appear before us, he stated.
He suggested that the Mayor should be hauled before the Committee in Accra when he returns from his vacation.
The Chairman of the Committee Kweku Agyemang Manu deferred the scrutiny of the Kumasi account.
