The Member of Parliament (MP) for Kwabre West in the Ashanti Region, Emmanuel Asamoah Owusu-Ansah, 73, is dead.
He passed away at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital Friday morning.
Mr. Owusu Ansah had been unwell for sometime now. A family source said he collapsed yesterday and was rushed to the Achimota Hospital where he was resuscitated.
An ambulance was called from Parliament because the Achimota Hospital lacks a standby ambulance which conveyed him to the Korle-Bu Teaching hospital from where he was referred to the Adabraka Polyclinic for an MRI scan beause the MRI machine at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital had broken down.
His condition appeared stable but before he could be conveyed to the Adabraka Polyclinic for the scan, he passed away at about 5am today.
Mr Owusu-Ansah was a former Ashanti Regional Minister, from 2005 to 2008, having taken over from Mr Sampson Kwaku Boafo.
He was also a former Deputy Attorney-General under Mr. Joe Ghartey.
Born on 17 July 1939, Mr Owusu-Ansah was a legal practitioner by profession.
He left behind a wife and five children.
This is the second MP to have died in less than a month.
Alhaji Sani iddi also passed away at the Korle Bu Teaching hospital after severe ailment. This means two by elections are expected to be held before the 2012 general elections.
