Editor-In-Chief of the New Crusading Guide Abdul Kweku Baako says NPP General Secretary Kwabena Agyapong cannot use his position to hold the party hostage following internal party wranglings.

He has dismissed the General Secretary’s view that a National Steering Committee cannot come on without his consent.

Outlining the process for calling the meeting per the constitution, he explained the role of the General Secretary.

“He is to give notice… [ not to convene] if you don’t do it that way then one person in this specific case my good friend Kwabena Agyapong can hold the whole organisation to ransom.

“The constitution of the party makes it clear…….“He [First Vice Chairman] doesn’t need your consent and your absence should not be a barrier to the hold of that meeting, if you don’t do that the whole political party can be neutralised because one, two, three people are absent for whatever reason”

The General Secretary has claimed that a May 4 meeting called by the First national Vice Chairman Freddie Blay was without his knowledge or consent.

He has claimed that some persons within the party want to usurp his authority and has questioned the commitment of the First vice National Chairman after his newspaper Daily Guide cartooned him.

The paper cartooned Kwabena Agyapong eating fufu in Kumasi as his reported excuse for not showing up at the meeting.

Highlighting the importance of his role, Kwabena Agyapong stressed that his signature is key to submitting party documents to the Electoral Commission.

But Kweku Baako is not convinced by Kwabena Agyapong’s position.

“That conception is wrong”, he stated.

The Editor-In-Chief explained that according to the party’s constitution, the General Secretary “shall perform his functions in accordance with the directives of the National Executive Committee and National Chairperson”

This means, Kwabena Agyapong will be taking instructions “coming from above”, Baako maintained.

If he fails, the party can instruct somebody else to file papers at the Electoral Commission and it will be accepted, the veteran journalist warned.

He dismissed Kwabena Agapong’s grievance over the ridiculing cartoon.

“Have a sense of humour. Take it in! cartoon? That you are eating fufu? Come on boy!
