The Vice President of FIDA International and a member of the New Patriotic Party, Ms Ursula Owusu, has warned Mr. Kwesi Pratt to direct whatever advice he has to his pay masters because Nana Akufo-Addo listens only to those who have his interest at heart. Mr. Kwesi Pratt, Managing Editor of the Insight Newspaper, had earlier called on the New Patriotic Party flagbearer, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, to distance himself from reports making rounds that he is considering choosing Ms Owusu as his running mate because she [Ursula] is arrogant and indecent and that her attitude could cause disaffection towards him. Reacting to these comments on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana programme Monday, Ms Ursula Owusu warned Mr. Kwesi Pratt to leave her name out of whatever view he would express, stating emphatically that Nana Addo does not need any advice from the likes of him, whom she said does not have the best interest of Nana Addo and the NPP at heart. “Kwesi Pratt definitely isn’t wishing for the NPP to come to power and is certainly not giving us advice that will enable us come to power, so he should stay out of our business,” she warned. She said she is not aware of but is flattered that anybody would consider her as running mate to the flagbearer, claiming that all such misinformation is being published by newspapers that are sympathetic to the National Democratic Congress (NDC). Ursula emphasised that as she has already made it clear, her political ambition is to get a seat in Parliament and that she is not considering herself as a running mate for Nana Addo as rumour has it. “…so he [Kwesi Pratt] should save his fallacious advice for those who need that advice and leave the NPP alone, we are focused on running an issues-based campaign,” she added. Ms Owusu also cautioned members of the ruling NDC to treat the NPP flagbearer with respect because come 2013 Nana Addo “will be sworn in as the president of the Republic of Ghana just as they [NDC] hope Atta Mills would also be sworn in.” She declared, “if they want us to treat their leader and flagbearer with respect, they should treat our leader and flagbearer with the same kind of respect and move on because we give respect to the potential positions that they occupy.” Ursula Owusu however called on the government to call its members to order as far as insulting leading members of the opposition is concerned because if they [NDC] try to intimidate the NPP with the politics of insult, they would be matched boot for boot – a situation she admits would impact badly on Ghanaian youth. “I will not be the first to cast that stone but God help me if anybody throws it at me, I will pick up the boulder and throw it back at the person,” she said.
