Former Chief of Staff under the Kufuor administration, Kwodwo Mpiani on Wednesday appeared before the police criminal investigations department to assist with investigations on the controversial 51 million judgement debt scandal paid to Alfred Woyome.
The two hour session touched on the award of contracts for the construction of CAN 2008 stadia that led to the payment of the controversial judgement debt.
Counsel for Mpiani confirmed his invitation in an interview with Joy News' Evans Mensah.
He said his client was invited not as a suspect but as a citizen to assist in unraveling the circumstances under which the payment was made to Woyome.
Faibille stated his client made it clear the role the New Patriotic Party government played in the construction of the stadia for the hosting of the CAN 2008- the construction of which led to the judgement debt payment made to Woyome
Mpiani also made it clear he did know Woyome as anybody who had any dealings with government, Faibille stated.
According to him, the police did not say whether they needed Mpiani to return but stated the investigators at a time wanted to be teachers but turned out to be students of Mpiani.
Joy News' Anny Osabutey who was present at the Police HQ described environment as peaceful with Mpiani looking calm.
