The President of the Central Regional House of Chiefs and member of the Council of State, Daasebre Kwebu Ewusi, has called on land-related agencies to work to purge themselves of characters who bring land administration agencies into disrepute.
He noted that many land conflicts and disputes were due to some of the actions and inactions of some officials in land administration in the country.
He said it was important that land-related agencies worked to build a workforce full of integrity and proficiency to restore the confidence of the public in them.
Daasebre Ewusi was speaking at an orientation and work planning workshop for personnel of land- related agencies on the second phase of the Land Administration Project (LAP) in the Central Region in Cape Coast Thursday.
He said advancement in the world today required that the Lands Commission brace itself to efficiently managed land to support the nation's development efforts.
He said the Lands Commission and all allied agencies must work to ensure that those recruited were of high repute to help reduce the many disputes in the administration of land.
He also called for another look to be taken at the laws governing land administration in the country, saying laws on land administration contained numerous inconsistencies which had also significantly contributed to the many land disputes.
Daasebre Ewusi said there was also the urgent need for the institution of a valid mapping system to ensure that stool lands in particular were properly demarcated and administered with adequate record keeping and proficiency.
The National Co-ordinator of LAP, Dr Isaac Karikari Bonsu, said it was time personnel of all land-related agencies worked to transform their mindset to enhance efficiency in the land administration system.
He said phase two of the programme would seek to consolidate the gains made under the first phase of LAP.
He said land administration procedures would be less cumbersome and much better if a little more effort was made to change habits for more responsive attitudes and behaviours.
The Central Regional Lands Officer, Mr Yaw Aboagye-Kyei, gave an assurance that personnel would commit more to the work to ensure that land resources were better managed.
