About five contractors associations have been meeting to build consensus on the policy document for establishing two universal bodies for the development of the construction industry.
Today’s meeting is the first of many such meetings expected to culminate in the formation of a Contractors’ Association Council which seeks to leverage on the synergies of the various associations and the Construction Industry Regulatory Board to advance higher standards of construction practice.
The Contractors Association Council expected before the end of September and the independent regulatory body by 2013.
“The Technical Committee Chairman of the Association of Building and Civil Engineers and Contractors, Rockson Dogbegah spoke to JOY-BUSINESS
“You’ll agree with me the fragmentation of associations and the relevant ministries does not help in the continuous development of the construction industry. So the Council will be the highest association of contractors in Ghana made up of all the contractors associations in Ghana” he said.
You know we have the Association of Building and Civil Engineers and Contractors of Ghana (ABCECG), Association of Road Contractors (ASROC), Progressive Contractors Association (PROCA), Association of Electrical Contractors and the Association of Mechanical Contractors among others” he said.
He adds that the independent regulatory body is still expected to be established by next year following today’s review of the research findings.
“With the research findings we have now which took account of other construction developments across the world such as Malaysia, South Africa and Singapore among others. We believe the documents and the research materials that government needs to support our call are now available and hope government responds to our calls for a regulatory body to be established by 2013” he noted.
