President John Mahama, has climaxed his two day “Accounting to the People Tour” of the Upper West region with the inauguration of a twelve unit Basic School complex for the Wa Prison Service.
The school is a GET-FUND project and is aimed at equipping prison inmates acquire practical skills to enable them to integrate into society.
This is the first time a President is visiting the Wa Prisons.
The twelve unit classroom block for the inmates comes with an administration block.
This is part of measures by governments to provide the country's prisons with schools to equip the inmates with hands on training in technical skills together with theoretical studies.
The Nsawam Maximum prison is a beneficiary of a similar project whilst work is ongoing on another for the Ankaful prison in the Central region.

The Acting Director General of the Ghana Prisons Service, Emmanuel Adzator, lauded government’s prison reforms programme.
He called for attention to be paid to accommodation issues of Prison officers.
President Mahama said the Prisons Reform Programme is to add a human face to the treatment prisoners face.
He said the Prison is a potential home for everyone and Prisoners need not to be condemned in their predicament.
Last year President Mahama, introduced a “Justice For All Programme.”
What this aims at doing is to appoint a Judge to visit all prisons and hear remand cases. The judge then determines which prisoner is being detained unfairly and is freed.
The “Justice For All Programme” is also meant to decongest the country's prisons.
As part of a constitutional mandate, President Mahama granted amnesty to eight hundred and 96 prisoners.
The freed prisoners are in five categories, first offenders, seriously ill persons, aged- seventy years, Double Amputees and frail people on death row.
One of the prisoner's at the WA Prison who did not fall in the amnesty category but has perhaps a genuine reason to be out of detainment caught the attention of President Mahama.
Some assorted food items and toiletries were presented for the upkeep
of the inmates.
