Ace presenter, Akumaa Mama Zimbi, otherwise known as Joyce Dongotey-Padi, who is the C.E.O of Widows Alliance Network (WANE), is likely to make Ghana proud in a few short months.
The hostess of Adom FM’s ‘Odo Ahumaso’, an adult oriented programme, and a veteran actress, has been short-listed for the Wise Awards, an international award ceremony scheduled to take place in Doha, Qatar, on November 17.
BEATWAVES gathered that the award show is part of a two-day global forum on education dubbed Wise Forum. The forum takes place between Novermber 16 and 18.
The award ceremony, which would be one of the major agenda on the forum, is aimed at recognizing and celebrating projects and initiatives that have demonstrated a real and positive impact.
It is also to provide an opportunity for individuals who have been excelling in educating their communities, to raise their profiles and promote their success on the global educational community.
Awards will thus be given based on pluralism, sustainability and innovation within educational projects.
The award attracted more than 395 entries, distributed as follows over the 3 categories: 103 applications on pluralism, 69 on sustainability, and 226 on innovation.
Applications were drawn from all over the world, 110 applicants from Africa, 92 from Asia & Oceania, 80 from Europe, 35 from the Middle East, 56 from North America and 25 from South and Latin America.
On August 31, 15 finalists were however announced for each category. Akumaa was the only Ghanaian short-listed for sustainability category.
According to wise-qatar.org, the official website for the event, the two-time Arts Critics and Reviewers Association of Ghana (ACRAG) Award winner was short-listed for the Wise Awards because of her efforts in setting up the Widows Alliance Network (WANE) for the sustainable economic development and education of widows.
Her fate will however be decided by an international jury of 10 leading educational experts who will announce the winners of the various awards on September 30, ahead of the Wise Forum.
