The Dansoman Command of the Ghana Police Service has confirmed that Latifa Salifu, the suspect accused of stealing a four-day-old baby at the Mamprobi Polyclinic in Accra, has been formally charged.

According to the Police, the case has been adjourned to March 4, 2026, when the suspect is expected to reappear in court for the next hearing.

Speaking to the media on Tuesday, February 24, the Dansoman Divisional Police Commander, Abraham Apusyine, said the suspect remains in police custody as investigations continue.

“She is in custody to assist us in concluding all aspects of the investigation, and then she will reappear before the court on the 4th of March," he said.

"For now, other aspects of the investigation are ongoing, and she is in safe custody until the 4th of March,” he said.

Also addressing the media, the Minister for Gender, Children, and Social Protection, Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, confirmed that the suspect is expected to appear before the court as legal proceedings begin to ensure justice for the affected family.

She further disclosed that the baby is responding well to medical treatment and is expected to be discharged later on Tuesday.

According to her, psychological support will also be provided to the parents following the traumatic incident.

The 33-year-old trader was earlier remanded into custody on February 20, 2026, by the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit Court in Accra.

She was charged with one count of child stealing before a court presided over by K. K. Obiri Yeboah. Her plea was not taken, as investigations were still ongoing.

The prosecution, led by Opoku Aniagyei, informed the court that investigations had not been concluded and prayed for the accused to be remanded in custody.
